Opinion
Melanie: In Germany people express their opinion usually quite directly (hoever we are still a bit cautiouse not to hurt anyones feelings). When I was in China it was sometimes a bit difficult for me to find out what people's opinions were, becaus they didn't express it and sometimes I was really confused
Ruiting: In China we really think it's kind of impolite if you express your opinion too straightly. For example, when i invite you to come to my home for dinner, but you don't want to come. You have to find an acceptable reason, you cannot just say: i don't want- this should be the last sentence when you refuse something. Anger
Melanie: In Germany people express their emotions also anger. When I was in China I didn't always know how people felt because they hide their feelings more.
Ruiting: Chinese always like hold the emotion, we believe that harmony is most important in the social relationship. So, why don't we let people be happy rather than feel uncomfortable? |
Handling problems
Ruiting: Maybe this is a method of Taiji? To avoid the direct problem and find some other way to achieve the aim.
Treating novelties
Melanie: In Germany people are a bit caustiouse and usually make less riskier choices. That doesn't mean they oppose to innovations, but they will test them and be more cautiouse about them.
Ruiting: Yes, we are curious about every new things. And we are brave enough to test it. Maybe it's because China is receiving so much innovation during the fast developing period since 1978. I'm not sure if the ancient Chinese also so curious. |
Children
Melanie:
Ruiting: Because of out one-child policy, the whole family cherish the only kid so much. you know Chinese take descendant very serious, so it's not hard to understand that especially the Oma and Opa spoil the "only grandson". |
Old people
Melanie:
Ruiting: It's good that old people can have their own life in Germany. Because in China, for example, my grandma who's 78 years old still picks her youngest grandson up from school and cooks for him now. However, it looks a little bit lonely for german old people that can only spend time with pets. |
Restaurant
Sunday on the street
Melanie:
Ruiting: What do you do on Sunday?!!! only sleep??? All the stores are closed on Sunday, it's unbelievable for us... |

Traveling
Melanie:
Ruiting: That is mainly because some of us love to show off that "I have been here!". However, having memories through taking pictures is good. Hey, but I also noticed that German always like doing the research during travelling: check every detail of the history or important features of some monumentals. Come on, too serious! |
