While all the Chinese students live in residential homes at university with up to 5 people in one room, all the German stundets have their own room although some of them share their appartments with others. The students in China were no able to choose where to live or whome they want to share the room with and only the students with the same gender may share the room. Furthermore they have fixed visitor times. In Germany people can choose where to live and whome they want to share the flat with (also with the opposite sex) and visitors come and go as they want.
Besides Germans can heat their appartement whenever they choose to do so, whereas China has a central heating control. |
While Germans only spend 14% of their money for education Chinese spend nearly 24%. The Chinese also 18% while Germans spend around 12%. Chinese also spend more money for food around 37% of their income while Germans only spend 20%. A huge difference is also the expences for clothes: Chinese spend 23% while Germans only spend 8% of their money on clothes. The highest expense fro German students is the rent: it accounts for 46% of their income, while Chinese are often exempted from rents. That's why they can spend only a smaller proportion of their money on other things.
The Germans things their expanses for education and rent are the most important ones while Chinese think that the ones for food are the most important. |
A lot of German students work while they are studying. On the one hand they often have to pay fees but they would also get support by the state if their parents have a low income.
Chinese students seldomly work while they are studying. Maybe a reason for German students work is that next to financing their studies they also want ot have a certain standard of living, for example a flat, a car, holidays and going abroad. While half of the German students stayed abroad for a longer time or want to do that, few Chinese students have that goal. The reason could be monetray or language problems. |
In Germany as well as in China sport is the most popular hobby. While in China more men do sport in Germany the number of male and female students is nearly the same. "Playing computer games" is also quite popular in both countries, however far more men named it as their hobby. Although we come from different cultures the hobbies of the studets seem to be quite simular.

Students from both coutries like to go to restaurants.
While Chinese students go to restaurants and cafés to meet friends, Germans also go to cafés but also a lot to bars to meet friends. Germans seldomly go to caraokee bars or concerts to meet friends, while Chinese students often meet in caraokee bars. In contrast to the Chinese students Germans also like to meet at home. Because of the living situation that's difficult for Chinese, who meet their friends in public places. |
